Often time supervision is caught up in the taxing legal process. It can be a very emotional and turbulent process as all stakeholders attempt to find the best solution to the circumstance. At Indaba strives to create a space where parents can step aside from the legal process and focus on the children in a genuine and fun manner. We advise all of our parents to put the conflict aside when spending time with the children, and just focus on making the most of their visitation and giving the children their full attention. A study at NYU that was published in the journal Development and Psychopathology, says that, “prolonged exposure to aggression between parents was also linked to children’s ability to regulate their own feelings of sadness, withdrawal, and fear, placing them at greater risk for symptoms of anxiety and depression later on (C. Cybele Raver, NYU’s Steinhardt School). In the interest of being the most supportive and safe space to the children we emphasize that visitation is a space for reconciliation, and to leave to the conflict to the lawyers.
